AN ISRAELI 'APOLOGY' FOR GAZA

In light of the tsunami of criticism against Israel's defense against the Hamas rocketing blitz from Gaza, IsraCast has extended the following 'apology' to US President Barack Obama. According to the Wall Street Journal, Washington has suspended the delivery of Hellfire missiles to Israel in response to 'Israel not knowing its place' in the eyes of some U.S. officials. This then, is why Israel should 'apologize' for its military operations against Gaza:

Arab World's Jewish Refugee Problem

It is probably the least known fact in the long and vociferous Arab-Israeli conflict, but more Jewish refugees were forced to flee from their homes in the Arab countries than all the Palestinians who were forced to flee or left of their own volition, from the newly born state of Israel in 1948.

At a Jerusalem news conference, Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon announced that Israel insisted that the Jewish refugees be ‘a core element in any future negotiation or settlement to resolve the conflict’.

Iran - A Genocide Foretold

'A genocide foretold' - that is how Prof. Irwin Cotler, a former Minister of Justice in Canada and a Member of Parliament, has described Iran's genocidal incitement against Israel when linked to Teheran's nuclear weapons development. At a Bar Ilan University Conference in the Mishkenot Shaananem Center in Jerusalem, Prof. Cotler presented a petition calling on the state parties to the Genocide Convention to honor their international obligation to prevent Iran from continuing on its path of genocide against the Jewish state. In a subsequent interview with IsraCast Prof. Cotler, an expert on international law, told David Essing that he believed Iran could still be stopped from acquiring the bomb.

Historic Recognition of the Jewish Refugees

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a resolution calling for the recognition of Jewish refugees forced to flee the Arab countries. In the wording of the non-binding resolution: 'Explicit reference to Palestinian refugees be matched by a similar explicit reference to Jewish and other refugees as a matter of law and equity'. In a recent interview with IsraCast, Canadian Member of Parliament Irwin Cotler, a former justice minister in Canada, estimated there were more Jewish Jewish refugees from the Arab countries than there were Palestinian refugees.

MIDDLE EAST REFUGEES - PALESTINIAN & JEWISH

Irwin Cotler, a Canadian MP and former justice minister in Canada, has said there is no legal or moral basis for the Palestinian demand that the Palestinian refugees be allowed to return to Israel. In an interview with IsraCast, Prof. Cotler contended that the Arab League rejection of the 1947 Partition Plan and its war against the new born state of Israel was responsible not only for the estimated 550,000 Palestinian refugees, but also for the some one-million Jewish refugees who were driven out of Arab countries after their property and assets were sequestered.

IRAN'S NUCLEAR GENOCIDE THREATS

IDF Intelligence Chief Maj. Gen Amos Yadlin has said that Iran may acquire a nuclear weapons option by 2010. In a closed door briefing to the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, the intelligence chief reported that the Iranians had run into some 'technological problems' in uranium enrichment while, with the help of North Korea, they are developing new missiles with a range of up to 3,500 kilometers. Canadian MP Irwin Cotler, a former Canadian Justice Minister and McGill Law professor, told IsraCast that Iranian President Ahmadinejad's threats 'to wipe Israel off the map' are in flagrant violation of the U.N. charter and something should be done about it.

More Than One Million Jewish Refugees

One of the thorniest issues in the upcoming Israeli-Palestinian negotiations will be the refugee question, on both sides. Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and other Palestinian officials claim the ‘right of return’ for the Palestinian refugees and their descendants who fled Palestine after the neighboring Arab states declared war on Israel in 1948. However, it appears that a similar number of Jewish refugees also fled from Arab countries. And this, after the Arab-League drafted a law that in effect confiscated their property and considered them to be ‘members of the Jewish minority state of Palestine’.

COTLER IN JERUSALEM

Canadian Justice Minister Irwin Cotler is now on a whirlwind tour of Egypt, Israel, the Palestinian Authority and Jordan. The former law professor, who is Jewish, is well known in the region; many top justice officials throughout the Middle East were his students at MaGill University in Montreal. Cotler is the first cabinet minister of the new Canadian government to visit the Middle East and he is bringing a message that Ottawa is ready to contribute in the quest for peace between Israel and a Palestinian state.
